I LOVE COLLEEN HOOVER. this bitch always comes through. I just LOVE her. The way she writes is just very unique. She gives you the best of both worlds. I personally love the rough kind of writing style. The kind that's explicit with affection though. Does that make sense? i like it vulgar what can i say a girls gotta fantasize right? anywhoes back to the story..
This book gave me life. At first I really didn't know where she wanted to go with this. Then I thought this would be a regular lovey dovey Nicolas Sparks romance story. But boy was I wrong. This book is that kind of book that makes you doubt life. When you think you got the story figured out, think again.. It kind of gives you a movie vibe, or the 'How to get away with murder' kind of vibe without the murder part you know. You'll know what i'm talking about after you read this trust me. Okay now i'm rambling.
The story is about a highschool teen named sky. She's a very complicated 17 year old teen who lives with her overly paranoid strict mother. She's not even allowed to have a cellphone or internet connection i mean it's the 21st century wtf? Anywhoes because of her ''complicated'' upbringing she tends to rebel against all of the rules. And of course she does all of this with her bff Six (yes I know and trust me her real name is weirder) whom I love. She tend to be a little wild with her partner in crime Six. They love party's and they love hookups even more. She's very independent and determined.
One day Sky bumps into this hawttt guy; Holder (I have some issues with this name Colleen) And boy is he a complex character. Holder has something very intense about him. You know soon enough he does not f** around. He seems like the typical mysterious bad boy. From the first encounter Holder recognizes something in Sky. He demands her name and soon becomes intriged by her. Their second encounter follows soon enough and slowly they become friends. It follows the typical friends who grow to be more story only with two complicated characters.
Holder is a complicated character who's past follows him as a shadow. He's lost his sister a few years back and has come back in town after leaving for a year. He has a deep guilt he carries around with him. I mean the guy had ''Hopeless'' tattooed for god's sakes. Sky on the other hand tried to lessen the burden on Holder's shoulders.
I dont want to give too much away from this story since the beauty of it is unraveling the story yourself. As you read along you open more and more doors. I must say everything wil be answered and fall into place, you just have to have patience and not anxiously search up spoilers. TRUST ME READERS! You do NOT want to be pushed in a direction or else you'll search for clues while reading it. Just enjoy the ride. I feel like i'm getting very cryptic but ughh I can't describe this story it's just too good. But anywhoes back to the storyline Skype and Holder have an amaing conection they soon become more than friends. Holder does want to take it slow
Colleen just blows e away everytime. She has a very smooth and captivating way of writing that makes you forget that you're reading and makes you feel more like you're in the story yourself. What I love most is that she doesn't introduce characters and forgets about them as the story goes on which some writers do. I mean even without changing the storyline you see so much of Sky's BFF and even Holders... **Hint Hint gimmeeee a spinoff about Six Queen C** She makes it look effortless, which i know isn't true since only writing an review takes me days.... *sniff sniff* Teach me master.
As for the ratings this is a definite 6 sins!! Honestly this was written so good and the storyline just captivated me. Although it doesn't have that raw kind of aggression that some books have.
I personally would loved it even more if it had a more urgent kind of romance between Holder and Sky. I'm usually not too keen about teen books. I tend to lean more towards a storyline of older characters but for Colleen, age is just a number! I hope this gives you an insight to the story. This is a definite 'To Read' recommendation from me!
Hopeless is book 1 of the Hopless series. Although this serie has 3 books it is not a trilogy. The second book 'Losing Hope' is in Holder's perspective which isn't completely the samen since there are a few gaps of time which will be explained in book 2. Book 3 'Finding Cinderella' Is aout Holder's BFF Daniel and his mystery girl. i definitely recommend to read the other two aswell!
And dont't forget! It only takes one, to fall in love with many...
